Backyard Nature Center

Our Mission
Our Mission is to promote, facilitate, and strengthen the bond between the nature environments in New Trier Township and the children and adults who wish to enrich their lives with direct experiences in nature.

Whether through stewardship, education, unstructured play, or family; connecting with nature has enormous benefits – cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual – for healthy child and adult development.  To connect with nature in one’s literal and figurative backyard is a life-affirming experience to be shared with family and community.

Join Us
Come help us continue our stewardship progress every second Saturday at the Skokie Lagoons from 10am – 1pm.  Work typically includes cutting buckthorn and other invasive species seen in that area. Gloves, tools, and snacks are provided.  No prior experience is necessary.
